Overview

Our client is a nationally well-known and highly regarded multi-discipline design and construction management firm that specializes in the planning and designing of advanced technology and life science facilities.  Their service offerings include front-end strategic consulting, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, chemical and process engineering; architectural design; start-up and commissioning.  They firmly believe that to earn a clients’ confidence as an Architectural, Engineering and Construction (AEC) partner, they must first serve them effectively as a business partner.

Currently, we seek energetic, self-motivated and innovative individuals: Lead Mechanical Engineer | Lead Electrical Engineer positions that can demonstrate the successful delivery of detailed mechanical and/or electrical design packages on medium to large scale capital projects.  The successful candidate must possess the skills required to successfully develop and execute project tasks and deliverables, be a collaborative team player, and have a strong drive to deliver a quality project to customers.

Engineering capabilities required include the ability to develop and implement engineering and design concepts for HVAC, plant and clean utilities, compressed gases, plumbing, and fire protection systems, as well as a thorough understanding of the development of design documents through conceptual, preliminary, detailed, and construction package stages (P&IDs, distribution plans, specifications, etc.). This person will be responsible for coordinating with internal and external architects and engineers, as well as client, construction manager, subcontractor, and vendor interfaces.

Project sizes will vary, and will consist primarily of pharmaceutical, biotech, or industrial process projects including both existing building renovations/retrofits and new construction. In addition, the qualified candidate should have proven ability to handle multiple complex tasks and have business and personnel management skills including the ability to establish and manage priorities and to market services to clients.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Architectural Engineering
  • 8 – 15 years of experience, much of this preferably in a design firm setting
  • Professional Engineer certification or the ability and willingness to obtain this designation
  • Candidates should have experience in the food, nutrition and consumer products industry
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit software
  • LEED Accredited professional preferred
  • Knowledge of GMP manufacturing environments
  • Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, or industrial process projects preferred
  • Understanding of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID)
  • Ability to lead a project and design effort from a mechanical / utilities perspective (from concept design through start-up)
  • Ability and willingness to commit to moderate travel requirements

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Developing HVAC, plant and clean utility, plumbing, and compressed gas system philosophies.
  • Coordinating with architects and other discipline engineers to locate system equipment, ductwork, and piping.
  • Developing Mechanical / Utility equipment and construction specifications.
  • Performing temperature / humidity control / HVAC and utility load calculations.
  • Developing airflow diagrams, pressurization plans, and classification.
  • Developing ductwork and piping plans.
  • Developing building management system control philosophy, details; Sequence of Operations; and plans in coordination with Instrument & Control engineers.
  • Developing utility consumption summaries for plant utilities and clean/process utilities.
  • Developing P&ID’s, equipment plans, plant / process utility distribution plans, and system details.
  • Performing construction assistance in the form of submittal reviews, RFI responses, and field visits to verify construction of Mechanical / Utilities scope is executed per the intent of the design.
  • Assisting in start-up of systems when required.
  • Directing activities of Mechanical CAD and Designer support staff as well as use CAD and modeling programs as necessary.
  • Managing and developing Mechanical / Utilities scope for project budgets and schedules.
  • Marketing services to clients and maintaining client relationships.
  • Contributing to discipline related content for proposals (e.g. scope, deliverables, fee, and schedule).
  • Traveling as required for client development and project execution.

This is a full-time position reporting directly to the Core Team Leader.
